Paradoxical Paradise

Conservatives, never forget what you're fighting for.

The sworn enemy of Andrew Breitbart, institutionalized liberalism, surrounds us, and tells us that we are something that we aren't. They tell us that we're uncaring, cold, selfish, racist, homophobic. They contrive personal, emotional stories of people adversely affected by conservatism that are splayed across screens on the internet and the nightly mainstream news. They make us out to be scum, stupid, and sexist throwbacks.

When you're surrounded by this vitriol for years and years, it can be really hard to maintain your defenses. For some, it can even be hard to continue to fight, and not to fall into enemy ranks or at least capitulate "minor" points.

Don't buy into it.

Don't give an inch.

Don't forget our vision.

What is our vision? some may ask. What do the conservatives want and seek?

The answer is very simple: paradise.

It's not the same paradise that liberals seek. Liberals want a utopia, and they want it at all costs. (The dirty little secret is that the neo-liberal utopia WILL cost all.) Conservatives reject their frightening measures and their nonsensical dreams. We have the better, truer version in mind.

The following is my vision, my dream of paradise.

In the paradise that I, as a conservative, fight for, everyone is free to do as they want unless it infringes on the rights of others. In this paradise, no one is forced to help another. But there's something amazing that happens: people are paradoxically more helpful and more willing to serve selflessly when the government doesn't step in and force them to it.
In this paradise, everyone is free to pursue that which they want to pursue. They can say what they will, spend time with who they will, and spend money on what they will.

In my paradise, prosperity reigns. The free and unrestrained exchange of goods and services creates a total economic surplus that is unequalable. In a society where there is not one governmental measure requiring the redistribution of wealth to the lowest strata of income, this strata will paradoxically rise higher than it could otherwise. The rich, the poor, and everybody in between will be richer.

There will be no inter-racial resentment. There will be no class resentment. There will be no policies favoring one socioeconomic or ethnic group over another, thus giving birth to new resentments. In a free society, you don't care about the color of the other man's skin--you care about his integrity and services.

The people will be safer in my vision of paradise. Governmental enforcement will be very limited in its confines, but firm when it does apply. Other countries will be treated with tolerance and respect, but never undue reverence and groveling--and we will never wait to cast the second punch. America will be foremost respected, and then loved.

As I look back over my paragraphs, they seem paltry compared to what I have in mind. They are completely inadequate to describe what I think and feel when I fight for what I believe. If ever anybody that knows me wonders why I believe and fight so tirelessly for something so seemingly inane and boring as a political viewpoint, I'll explain why gladly: I'm shaping your future by making your future POSSIBLE. What kind of future? The future YOU want, the future that YOU are willing to reach out and grab for yourself. There will be help there when you need it--the best kind of help, the kind that doesn't come with unintended consequences, covert expectations, and empty promises that cannot and will not be fulfilled.

Conservatism is the necessary medicine in our time to reach this vision. Don't believe conservatives to be uncaring. When we seem uncaring, just like a disciplining parent, it is because we know better and love more. It is because we believe the best of you and of each individual. It is because we know of what you are capable. We are footsoldiers fighting against the worst kind of enemy--sanctimonious, stifling oppression--for the betterment of all humankind. It is a fight of love, it is a fight worth fighting, and it is a fight that we can WIN!
